What is Gorilla Glass?

Gorilla Glass is used in Motion Computing F5 and C5 Tablet PC’s for increased screen durability.

For all the details on Gorilla Glass head over to the Motion Computing website:

http://www.motioncomputing.com.au/choose/spec_gorilla_glass.htm

“Corning’s Gorilla glass was designed specifically for products like the Motion tablets, which are focused on durability, mobility and industry-leading displays that offer a bright viewing experience in a highly portable and durable design,” said James E. Hollis, commercial director, Corning Specialty Materials. “Additionally, since Gorilla glass is strong and also damage and scratch resistant, it further protects pen-input devices that are often exposed to elements such as water and dust.”

Work Anywhere Kit Photos

Here are a couple of pictures of the Work Anywhere Kit for the Motion Computing J3400 Tablet PC. I found the image on the Motion Computing website a bit small so hopefully you can see what’s included in the kit a bit easier in this post.

Business Tax Break on Motion Computing

There is a 50% tax break for small businesses (with turnover of less than $2 Million)  on Computer Hardware purchases made before 31st December 2009.

The above tax deduction is in addition to the deductions for decline in value you can claim for the cost of the asset you use in your business.

Example:

John is a smash repairer who purchases a Motion Computing J3400 Tablet PC for his business and installs it in August 2009. The J3400 costs $4,000 (excluding GST and the cost of software installed on the computer). John will be able to claim an addiitonal $2,000 tax deduction (50% of $4,000) in his 2008-09 tax return.

After applying the 30% company tax rate (the rate which applies to his business), this tax deduction would reduce the amount of tax John’s business would have to pay by $600.

Mobile Broadband Installation process

Motion Computing doesn’t ship the Tablet PC with the modem pre-installed as every customer uses a different Telco, so you have to install the required software to get it going.

If you buy the Sierra Wireless Broadband Modem option when you start Windows for the first time I box will pop up which says new ‘Mini PCI Card’ hardware found. Click do not ask me again, and click OK. (You will have to repeat this half a dozen times as there are different components to this part).

Installing the Sierra Watcher Software

Connect to the Internet either using a Wireless Network, or via the Ethernet port and then download the Sierra Watcher Software from the Motion Computing Support website here: http://www.motioncomputing.com/support/driver_download.asp

If you use Telstra as a ISP get the Telstra driver, if you use any other Telco such as Optus, Vodafone, 3 etc then choose the Generic Driver.

nextg

In Australia,  you will get the fastest connection speed and largest coverage area with Telstra Next G, other Telcos will still work – but they just won’t be as fast.

After installing, power down and insert your SIM Card (under the battery) and then restart your Motion Computing Tablet PC. You should now be able to connect to the Internet with the Sierra Watcher software and have mobile broadband.
