Motion Computing releases Intel i3 versions on the F5v and C5v Tablet PC’s

Motion Computing have released a new version of the Motion Computing F5v Rugged Field Tool and C5v Mobile Clinical Assistant Tablet PC’s, this time featuring the Intel Core i3-380UM Processor and these are now available to order in Australia from Workflow Computing.

With the same functionality, features and design of the existing models but at a lower price point, these tablets are perfect for mobile workers performing data entry tasks who do not require the multitasking performance of the high end Intel Core i7 versions which have been the standard until now.

Together with the new Motion Computing CL900 Tablet PC which will be available in Mid-April, these new versions help Motion Computing cover the full spectrum of performance and pricing options for businesses embracing tablet computing for the first time, from entry-level to the fastest commercially available.

Motion Computing CL900 Tablet PC Sets new performance and functionality benchmark

“The CL900 is the latest tablet PC from Motion, recognized as the premier provider of enterprise-ready tablet PCs. Our knowledge, passion and total dedication to producing the absolute best tablets built for business is second to none. We are exclusively and relentlessly focused on improving
the productivity of mobile workers. The CL900 is the result.

The Motion CL900 is a rugged, lightweight and powerfully equipped tablet PC purposefully designed, developed and built for business. The CL900 helps mobile users to be more efficient and effective – no matter where work takes them”.

Motion Computing has always been the technology leader in the Tablet PC space, carefully designing and developing new technology then releasing it to market 6-12 months (or even longer) before the competition. The yet unreleased Motion Computing CL900 Tablet PC will again set a new performance and functionality benchmark.

Interestingly, Motion Computing have historically been opposed to using entry-level low cost Intel Atom processors in favour of desktop grade performance (such as the latest J3500 and F5v Tablet’s which feature the Intel i7 and i5 processors) in combination with hot-swappable batteries. However, as the Windows 7 operating system has become more efficient; Solid State Hard Technology has moved into the mainstream and office applications move into the cloud, a new market has been created for the Intel Atom product. In the cloud it’s more important to have a fast wireless broadband provider than outright performance at the data entry point. If the new Intel Atom “Oak Trail” processor can multi-task enterprise application software, playback high definition video and provide fast network connectivity as promised then it will be an amazing achievement for this price point.

But as much as the CL900 is about offering business grade performance, it is unquestionably more importantly about battery life and 8 hours of continuous usage for a Windows Based Tablet PC is again a significant achievement. The other compelling feature about this battery technology is that the recharge time is only 2 hours, as not many hardware manufacturers mention the recharge time on their new product datasheets. For business users, this is a very important feature because unless you can recharge your battery quickly your day could be ruined if you have forgotten to charge overnight.

The new Motion Computing CL900 offers an impressive range of functionality and connectivity. Use with either pen or touch. USB or Bluetooth. Wireless LAN or Wireless WAN. Docking Station or Carry Case. The flexibility of this design mirrors the Motion Computing F5v and J3500 form factors which unlike other brands, enables Motion Computing Tablet PC’s to be used as a single system in the office, in the car, or outside in direct sunlight. For any progressive thinking companies with mobile workers looking to go paperless, the return on investment for rolling out the CL900 is going to be outstanding.

New Motion Computing CL900 Tablet previewed at CES 2011 – stay tuned for formal announcement

At the International CES today, the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow, Motion Computing previewed a new Tablet PC called the CL900 for engadget

Whilst we wait for the official specifications and announcement from Motion Computing, what we do know so far is this is going to be an entry level tablet based on the new Intel ‘Oaktrail’ Atom processor aimed at business users, but with some compelling features for consumers.

Intel describes “Oak Trail” as optimized for sleek tablet and netbook designs,  delivering up to a 50 percent reduction in average power consumption with full HD-video playback and targeting software choices including MeeGo*, Windows* 7 and Google operating systems.

With a large number of computer hardware vendors launching their first attempt at Intel Atom based Tablets to compete with the iPad, we can already see that this new CL900 offering from Motion Computing promises a number of enhanced product features leveraging their experience in the tablet market such as:

* Rugged Device with MIL-STD-810G designed to withstand drops up to 4ft. (to pass this test the tablet is dropped a total of 26 times while operating from a height of 48 inches onto plywood over concrete). This is also the same drop rating as the new Motion Computing F5v Rugged Tablet PC.

* Capacitive Touch Screen OR Active Digitizer options – CL900 maybe perfect for both business use and consumer multimedia applications

* Corning Gorilla Glass – much stronger than normal glass and designed to survive everyday bumps and scratches, especially important for people who are walking or standing while they are working. We expect the CL900 will also feature the same screen performance (read brightness) technology but will have to wait for the announcement to confirm.

* Integrated Components – The Motion CL900 has Dual Cameras (forward and rear facing), Integrated Wireless Broadband (just add your SIM Card), HDMI and MicroSD, and although it is not mentioned we expect that it will also feature Intel Wireless N and Bluetooth connectivity.

* Large Range of Accessories  – in the pictures below we can see a docking station, and a number pad with LED Display for point of sale applications. Expect more accessories from Motion Computing for the new CL900 including vehicle chargers, carrying solutions, and mounting options.

Intel Anti-Theft Technology with Motion J3500 and Motion F5v

Anti-Theft Technology is a new standard feature of the Motion Computing J3500 and Motion Computing F5v Tablet PC’s with Intel vPro Technology.

One of the concerns when adopting mobile computers is security, and preventing access to corporate information in case of theft. Because up until now once your computer has been taken it’s too late – well not anymore.

Importantly, we must stress that you do need to have the right software to configure how your computer will behave if stolen like Computrace, but once setup this technology works irrespective of whether you are connected to your corporate network or not, and effectively enables you to remotely disable your Tablet PC if it is lost or stolen.

Here are some video demonstrations of how this technology works:
